New Sony Cyber-shot TX5 and H55: New stylish and Waterproof Cameras

Sony Electronics Asia Pacific announces the launch of two new cameras, the Cyber-shot TX5 and Cyber-shot H55. Targeted at consumers who lead an active outdoor lifestyle, the new Cyber-shot TX5 is the world’s slimmest waterproof digital still camera , giving users freedom to use the camera even in harsh outdoor conditions. The latest addition to the well-acclaimed Cyber-shot H series, the Cyber-shot H55, features 10x optical zoom with Sony’s “G Lens”, ensuring photos with a high level of clarity and details regardless of distance.

“Consumers today are engaged in more active lifestyles and need sturdy products that can capture life’s great moments effortlessly,” says Mr. Yosuke Aoki, General Manager, Digital Imaging Division, Sony Electronics Asia Pacific. “With Sony’s unique design philosophy and technical expertise, we have created new Cyber-shot cameras, such as the waterproof and shockproof TX5, which is built to withstand the daily grind without sacrificing its ability to take clear and vivid photographs.”

Cyber-shot TX5: New stylish waterproof and shockproof addition to Sony’s renowned touch screen compact cameras
The new 10.2 megapixel Cyber-shot TX5 is the latest addition to the popular Cyber-shot T series and takes outdoor photography to a whole level by being waterproof, dustproof, shockproof and even weather resistant . It is also the world’s slimmest waterproof compact camera with a width of just 16.7mm, making it the perfect camera for users who love the outdoors, or even risk-taking adventurers, while staying in style.

Created for individuals with an active lifestyle, the new DSC-TX5 can be used in waters up to 3m deep for up to an hour. The intuitive touch screen feature, a mainstay for the Cyber-shot T series, can also be used underwater. Combined with its resistance to dust, the new Cyber-shot camera provides a high level of reliance even in harsh conditions. In addition, the new Cyber-shot TX5 is able to withstand drop shocks from a height of 1.5 m, and is also resistant to temperatures up to -100C. With its outstanding water-repellency characteristics and toughness, the Cyber-shot TX5 is suitable for use during activities such as snorkeling and hiking trips in cold or damp locales.

The Cyber-shot TX5 is equipped with the high-sensitivity Exmor R CMOS sensor. When combined with an advanced BIONZ image processor and high performance Carl Zeiss lens, these technologies deliver visually stunning photographs with increased detail and extremely low noise. This allows the TX5 to capture photos even in extreme low light conditions, such as a scenic panoramic view of the city skyline at night, using the Handheld Twilight mode. Also new in the DSC-TX5 is the Backlight Correction HDR which takes two exposures, one set to capture shadow detail and the other to capture highlight detail. Merging both exposures into a single JPEG image, maximum dynamic range and natural colours are achieved in the final image.

Additionally, the DSC-TX5 features the Intelligent Sweep Panorama function, an upgrade of the popular Sweep Panorama in previous Cyber-shot models. With a simple sweep of the camera either horizontally or vertically, the TX5 is able to cleverly stitch photos together for effortless panoramic shots. The Cyber-shot TX5 also features a 25mm wide-angle lens , which offers the option of capturing photographs with more varied perspectives. A new self-portrait timer helps determine the best composition before activating an automated timer to release the shutter. The TX5, which is available in five fashionable shades, also features built-in PMB Portable application for instant uploads of photographs to photo sharing websites.

Cyber-shot H55: A perfect camera for travelers
The latest offering from the high-performance Cyber-shot H series, the DSC-H55 features 10X optical zoom and is the first Cyber-shot camera with a Super HAD CCD image sensor that features the popular Sweep Panorama function, enabling consumers to capture scenic moments in as quickly as three seconds. Equipped with Sony’s proprietary “G Lens”, first incorporated in α DSLR cameras, the 14.1 megapixel compact shooter has a wide angle of 25mm, allowing frequent travelers to shoot a vast variety of scenes wherever they go.

In addition, the DSC-H55 is able to shoot 720p HD movies, which makes the DSC-H55 the perfect tool to create a complete audio and visual chronicle of any journey. The camera is also equipped with a self-portrait timer and can upload photos via the in-camera PMB Portable application for added convenience. The DSC-H55 comes in two colors, black and silver.

The new Cyber-shot TX5 and H55 are compatible with Sony’s Memory StickTM as well as SD/SDHC memory cards, offering users more storage options. The new Cyber-shot TX5 will be available in Asia Pacific from March 2010, while the Cyber-shot H55 will be available from April 2010.
